Some users of Elon Musk's X now have access to audio and video calling features

According to Chief Technology Officer and Owner Elon Musk, social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is unveiling an early version of video and voice calling for certain users, as the billionaire pushes for X to become a "everything app."

 

Musk referred to a platform post informing users on how to enable the function as a "early version of video & audio calling on X."

 

The current addition is the latest in a succession of new features and modifications to the platform's fundamental experience under Musk, who purchased the social media startup about a year ago.

Musk indicated that after renaming Twitter as X, he intended to convert the platform into a super-app, offering features ranging from chat and social networking to peer-to-peer payments.

 

Musk teased the feature in August, saying users would not need a phone number to use the services, which would be available on Apple's iOS, Google's Android, and personal computers.

X said earlier this month that it will try a new subscription model in which it will charge a $1 (about Rs. 83) yearly fee for basic capabilities.

 

The new "Not A Bot" subscription would charge users for likes, reposts, or citing other accounts' posts, as well as saving posts on the platform's online version.

The goal of implementing the new subscription model is to battle bots and spammers, according to X, who added that the charge will vary by nation dependent on the currency rate.

 

According to X, the new approach would be offered initially to customers in New Zealand and the Philippines.

 

Existing users are unaffected by this test. However, new users who do not choose to subscribe will only be allowed to access and read posts, watch videos, and follow accounts.
