Apple Vision Pro will be available in early 2024, but the iPhone manufacturer is apparently working on a successor to the first-generation gadget. In his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple is focusing on reducing the weight and size of the second-generation Vision Pro headset. On the other side, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is aiming to lower the price of its forthcoming headgear, only days after the firm launched the Meta Quest 3.

Apple WWDC 2023 Event:

  • The Apple Vision Pro, which was unveiled earlier this year at Apple's WWDC 2023 event in June, will not be available for purchase for a few months — but Apple is already working on a replacement to the wearable gadget, according to Gurman.

Weight and Size of the Vision Pro:

  • The weight and size of the Vision Pro caused neck pain in testing, and the second-generation gadget might be lighter and smaller.

Challenges:

  • Gurman also explains some of the additional challenges that Apple Vision Pro faces, such as users who wear spectacles.

Lenses from Zeiss:

  • Users of the first-generation headset will need to purchase prescription lenses from Zeiss, which will be magnetically affixed to the headset.

  • However, he warns that doing so may make sharing the gadget difficult, particularly if two individuals have different prescription glasses.

Meta Employee:

  • According to a Meta employee, the business is keeping an eye on Apple ahead of the launch of its wearable headset next year.

Latest Competitor:

  • Both gadgets are pitched to clients who seek either work or gaming, and Meta is said to have abandoned its metaverse pitch in order to align with its latest competitor, Apple.

Shrinking the Size:

  • While Apple is rumored to be focusing on shrinking the size of its future headset, Meta is aiming to make its next headset less expensive than the Quest 3 in order to make it more accessible to users.

  • Gurman believes the business may do this by selling the headgear without bundled controllers and asking users to purchase them separately.

Ray-Ban Sunglasses:

  • Aside from recording photographs and videos, accepting calls, and listening to music, Meta's recently released Ray-Ban sunglasses do not have any AR capability.

  • According to Gurman, the business intends to release spectacles incorporating AR displays by 2025.
