Apple announced its newest MacBook Pro models on Tuesday, which include the company's latest M3 CPU family. The laptops include Liquid Retina XDR screens and a battery life of up to 22 hours. Apple also touts the improved performance of the new processor family, which includes the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. These chips, built on TSMC's 3nm manufacturing technology, allow hardware-accelerated ray tracing as well as a new memory feature called Dynamic Caching, which improves GPU performance when running demanding apps and games.

MacBook Pro (2023) specs and features

Apple's latest MacBook Pro models are all powered by the company's new M3 processor family, which includes the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. The top-of-the-line M3 Max processor may be set with up to 128GB of RAM, the most RAM available on the company's laptops to date. Meanwhile, variants equipped with M3 and M3 Pro CPUs are available with up to 24GB and 36GB of RAM, respectively.

These are Apple's second MacBook Pro models to be announced this year; in January, the company introduced new M2 powered MacBook Pro variants. The new chips, which are based on TSMC's 3nm manufacturing technology, include up to 16 CPU cores, 40 GPU cores, and 16 Neural Engine cores. The laptops come with up to 1TB of SSD storage. According to Apple, the new M3 Pro chip is up to 40 times quicker than the M1 Pro processor and up to 11 times faster than the previous MacBook Pro model powered by an Intel Core i7 CPU.

While the new M3 lineup offers minor CPU improvements over the previous generation, Apple has highlighted the GPU improvements on the new 3nm chips, such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing and a new Dynamic Caching feature that allows the GPU on the M3 chip to allocate a precise amount of local memory to optimize memory usage for tasks.

The latest MacBook Pro models include 14-inch and 16-inch Liquid Retina XDR (3,024x1,964 pixel) screens with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1600 nits (HDR content) and 600 nits (SDR content). It boasts a backlit keyboard and Touch ID capability for biometric identification.

Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, up to three Thunderbolt 4/ USB 4 ports, a MagSafe 3 charging connector, an SDXC card reader, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack are among the connectivity choices for the latest MacBook Pro models. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M3 processor is said to have a battery life of up to 22 hours on a single charge, while the M3 Pro and M3 Max variants have up to 18 hours. The bigger 16-inch MacBook Pro model with M3 Pro and M3 Max CPUs has a battery life of up to 22 hours.
