According to facts supposedly revealed by a business official, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series would likely feature satellite connectivity. According to a Sisa Journal-E story (translated from Korean), Samsung Electronics System LSI Business Head Yong-In Park revealed at a recent presentation that the South Korean technology giant was planning to include satellite communication functionality on its smartphones next year. With the Samsung Galaxy S24 series of smartphones planned to launch in Q1 2024, these devices are likely to be the first to offer the capability.

According to the article, a Samsung official stated that the business has already begun planning to offer smartphone communications via satellite. Yong-In Park, who made the news at the 2023 Semiconductor Expo, did not provide a date for when the technology will be available, nor did he indicate which phones would support it.

It's worth mentioning that Apple announced support for non-terrestrial networks (NTN) communication via its Emergency SOS satellite function with the iPhone 14 series of handsets in 2022, and the company's newest phones — including the iPhone 15 Pro Max — also support the capability. Qualcomm revealed Snapdragon Satellite compatibility in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU earlier this year, however the capability was not available on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series of devices.

NTN connection is also supported by Samsung's Exynos 5300 modem, which is found on the Exynos 2400 mobile CPU, as well as Google's Tensor G2 (Pixel 7) and Tensor G3 (Pixel 8) processors. Samsung has yet to announce whether it would enable satellite communication capabilities on its Exynos 2400 processor, which is likely to power the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+, or the newly released Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which is slated to power the Galaxy S23 Ultra device.

It's also unclear if Samsung's Galaxy S23 smartphone line, which includes the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, will enable emergency satellite communication. TM Roh, president and head of Samsung's mobile experience business division, previously indicated that satellite capability on smartphones was still fairly limited and that it was too early to incorporate the feature on Samsung devices.
