Threads, a microblogging software from Meta Platforms, will be released only days after Twitter executive chair Elon Musk placed a temporary limit on how many tweets users may view on the social networking platform.
Threads, Instagram's text-based chat app, is set to launch on Thursday and will enable users to follow the profiles they follow on the photo-sharing site while maintaining the same username, according to a listing in Apple's App Store.
The app's introduction comes after Twitter imposed a slew of limitations, including the requirement to be verified in order to use TweetDeck.
Musk's newest pledges to address data scraping have provoked a heated outcry from Twitter users, and ad experts have warned that it may damage new CEO Linda Yaccarino, who took over last month.
A Reuters request for comment on a comparable launch on the Google Play Store was not immediately responded to.
Meanwhile, Twitter-like networks like as Bluesky and Mastodon experienced an increase in users and activity shortly after Musk announced the limitations. Bluesky, a new beta service created by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, reported "record high traffic" on Saturday and claimed it was temporarily halting new sign-ups. Mastodon's active user base increased by 110,000 on that day, according to its inventor and CEO Eugen Rochko.
