With the release of iOS 17 later this year, the AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) will receive a significant software upgrade. Apple announced on Monday at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote event that its latest truly wireless stereo (TWS) earphones will include a new feature called Adaptive Audio, which can intelligently analyse your environment and adjust transparency mode and active noise cancellation (ANC) settings without any input. According to the business, it can blend both modes together based on how you interact with your surroundings throughout the day.

During the WWDC 2023 keynote session, Apple VP for Sensing and Connectivity Ron Huang said that the second-generation AirPods Pro will include Adaptive Audio, a technology that dynamically combines both ANC and transparency mode. This mixed mode allows you to turn out background noise while keeping crucial sounds like horns and bells on.

To provide a better experience while listening to music and podcast episodes, Apple claims it will utilise tailored volume settings based on machine learning taught on your listening habits over time, in conjunction with the Adaptive Audio feature, which combines both ANC and transparency mode.

Meanwhile, when iOS 17 is released, the AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) will be upgraded with another handy function called Conversation Awareness. When music is playing on the AirPods, the function detects when you talk and automatically lowers the media level, reduces background noise, and focuses on the voices of individuals in front of you.

According to Apple, Adaptive Audio would also suppress outside noises while on a phone conversation, allowing you to hear the other participants without interruptions. A pinch motion will also allow you to silence yourself. According to the business, switching an AirPods connection between Apple devices will become more frictionless later this year.
