As part of the newest beta version, WhatsApp has resumed testing a feature that enhances group conversations on Android. The popular messaging software recently began beta testing the ability to display profile icons next to messages in group conversations, but the feature was removed in later beta releases. Meanwhile, the Meta-owned app has begun distributing the first version of its Updates page to iOS beta testers. WhatsApp is also working on visual enhancements for Android, including a new emoji keyboard and Material You-style toggles in the app's settings.

The presence of profile icons in groups was discovered by feature tracker WABetaInfo on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.12.7. Beta testers who have upgraded to this version should see profile icons for all group members as well as default "generic" profile icons for users who have not specified a profile photo. Gadgets 360 confirmed that the functionality was enabled in the app's current beta version for Android cellphones.

The group profile icon feature was observed in development last year and was briefly made available to beta testers before being deleted. Users who upgrade to the current beta version of WhatsApp for Android should see icons for group participants' profile images, making it easier to distinguish messages from various senders.

The chat app was also recently found working on Material You-themed toggles for different settings in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.12.3. To signal whether an option is activated, the narrow toggles in the settings section have been changed with broader switches with a green accent, in accordance with Google's Material Design 3 standards for designers.

Meanwhile, WABetaInfo discovered a new Updates page on WhatsApp beta for iOS version 23.11.0.70. The functionality is currently in development and will be available as a new Status tab that will display users both Channels and Status. According to reports, the Meta-owned messaging service is working on a broadcast-like function that will allow one-way contact with Channel users.

WhatsApp is also working on new features for a revamped emoji keyboard that is presently in the works. According to WABetaInfo, the three buttons that allow users to choose between GIF, sticker, and emoji keyboard have been moved to the top of the same area.
