Twitter Refuses to Pay Google Cloud Bills Before Contract Renewal: Source

Twitter has failed to pay its Google Cloud costs as its contract expires this month, potentially crippling the social media company's trust and safety teams, Platformer said on Saturday.

According to the article, prior to Elon Musk's takeover of the social media site last year, Twitter inked a multi-year contract with Google to combat spam and secure accounts, among other things.

The Platformer analysis did not go into depth about how the spat between the corporations would affect Twitter's trust and safety teams. According to The Information, Twitter has been attempting to renegotiate its deal with Google since at least March.

Platformer stated that Twitter hosts some services on its server and others on Amazon and Google cloud platforms.

According to the Information, Amazon told Twitter in March that it will withhold advertising payments due to the company's overdue invoices to Amazon Web Services for cloud computing services.

Since Musk's takeover, Twitter has drastically reduced its expenditures and fired off hundreds of people. According to Reuters, Musk directed the business to decrease infrastructure expenditures, like as cloud service spending, by $1 billion (approximately Rs. 8,243 crore).

Twitter did not answer quickly to an email enquiry, and Google did not respond promptly to a comment request.

Ella Irwin, Twitter's head of trust and safety, told Reuters earlier this month that she had left from the social media platform, which has received criticism for insufficient safeguards against hazardous content since Musk bought it in October.

Irwin, who joined Twitter in June 2022, took over as head of the trust and safety team in November, following the resignation of former head Yoel Roth. She was in charge of content moderation.

A day later, AJ Brown, Twitter's head of brand safety and ad quality, chose to quit the business as well.
