Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple investors are more interested in AI announcements than the Apple Reality Pro headset at WWDC

WWDC 2023, Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, begins later today, and the firm is expected to unveil its first mixed reality headset. The headset is said to have both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technology, as well as powerful Apple Silicon CPUs and high-resolution Micro OLED screens. According to a supply chain expert, investors are more interested in the company's intentions to introduce AI-related technology at WWDC than the rumoured Apple Reality Pro mixed reality headset.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF Securities, recently discussed WWDC 2023 with anonymous investors. Investors, he claims, are less interested in Apple's mixed reality headgear, which may not be a "substantial revenue and profit contributor" for suppliers until 2025. On the other side, Kuo notes that investors are interested in AI, particularly after Nvidia forecasted quarterly revenue that was more than 50% higher than Wall Street projections, bringing the company closer to becoming the first trillion-dollar semiconductor manufacturer.

Investors are particularly interested in when Apple will debut "ChatGPT-like" services, and they anticipate that unveiling AI and AIGC-related services at WWDC will carry the continued AI investment enthusiasm. According to the supply chain expert, if a device that supports AIGC would function with higher hardware specs, it may stimulate demand to upgrade and replace older hardware.

Some investors believe that the reported Apple Reality Pro mixed reality headset's successful debut will have a significant influence on the 3D computer graphics and 3D interactive design industries, while its ability to interface with AIGC services will determine its long-term viability.

Despite investor fears, Kuo believes that if Apple can ship enough mixed reality headsets alongside new iPhone, Apple Watch, and Mac models in the second part of the year, suppliers and the company would gain.

It's worth noting that Apple hasn't announced any plans to release a new mixed reality headset or AI-related capabilities for any of its gear or software before WWDC 2023. During the keynote event, which begins at 10:30 p.m. IST tonight, the firm is also expected to debut new Mac models and announce upgrades to iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, and tvOS.
