The company's next-generation mixed reality headgear, Meta Quest 3, was released on Thursday. It is powered by a new Snapdragon chipset that is said to provide double the graphics performance of the Meta Quest 2. The gadget also has new Touch Plus controllers that do not use outside tracking rings and supports TruTouch haptics from the Meta Quest Pro. The third-generation headgear arrives only days before the iPhone maker's first mixed reality headset, the Apple Reality Pro.

According to Meta, an upcoming software update will also increase CPU and GPU performance on the Quest 2 and Quest Pro headphones. Both of these devices will also offer dynamic resolution scaling, allowing for enhanced pixel density without sacrificing frame rate. According to Meta, the Quest 2 and Quest Pro will be available with the future Quest 3 headset.

Meta Quest 3 cost and availability

The 128GB Meta Quest 3 costs $499.99 (about Rs. 41,200). The headgear will be available for purchase in the autumn, and the business is anticipated to provide further information on pre-orders and sale dates during its annual Meta Conference, which kicks out on September 27.

Meta, on the other hand, has reduced the price of the current-generation Quest 2 VR headset, which will now retail for $299.99 (about Rs. 24,700) beginning June 4. The headset's price has been reduced nearly a year after it was raised by $100 (approximately Rs. 8,200) in July 2022.

Specifications and Features of Meta Quest 3

The business has unveiled some of the new headset's important specs. It is powered by a next-generation Snapdragon processor, perhaps the Snapdragon XR3. According to the company, it gives more than double the graphics performance of the Snapdragon XR2 GPU, which drives the Quest 2 headset. The Quest 3 will have the firm's highest resolution display and pancake optics for smoother performance and greater details in immersive games, according to the company.

In contrast to the Quest 2, Meta's recently released Quest 3 headset has revised Touch Plus controllers that do not require outside tracking rings. According to the firm, hand tracking is available out of the box with Direct Touch support. The new controllers include the same TruTouch haptics as the Meta Quest Touch Pro controllers, which can be purchased separately and are compatible with the Quest 3.

According to the firm, the Quest 3 headset features a 40% smaller visual profile (without the foam facial interface) than the Quest 2 headset. It has a variety of sensors on the front of the smartphone, but it does not enable sophisticated face-tracking functions. The new mixed reality headgear will be compatible with the company's Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro gaming library, which comprises 500 VR applications and games.
