Android 14 Lock Screen Clock Designs and Customization Options Seen Before Release

Android 14 is still a few months away from its expected release, but information regarding the next version of Google's smartphone operating system continues to leak online. The next version of Android is likely to include minor design modifications and upgrades, as well as performance and privacy improvements. A month after Google I/O, the company demonstrated lock screen clock customization possibilities on Android 14, additional custom clock designs and customization features have appeared online.

Tipster Kamila Wojciechowska (via Esper's Mishaal Rahman) has reported new lock screen clock customization options for Android 14. A screen recording shows a sequence of lock screen clocks with a few options — for colour and size — when a certain clock face is selected. The new lock screen customization options, according to Rahman, should be available with Android 14 Beta 3 a month after they were announced at Google I/O.

The Wallpaper and Style app on Android 14 will, according to Rahman, enable you to modify the colour and intensity of the lock screen clock. This is due to the possibility to choose distinct wallpapers for the home screen and lock screen, which may result in a difference between the system-provided colour palette and the lock screen wallpaper colour.

Instead, the Wallpaper and Style app allows you to change the colour of the clock and alter the intensity, while a second page allows you to choose between Dynamic and Small clock sizes. This option is equivalent to selecting the double-line clock settings under Display > Lock screen in the Settings app.

Last week, Rahman disclosed that Android 14 will have a battery health monitoring feature that would let users to view the status of their phone's battery and track charge cycles. The next version of Android features new application programming interfaces (APIs) that display information such as the battery's health, the production date, the date it was first used, the number of charging cycles completed, and the charging policy.

Two APIs that track battery charging status and the number of battery charge cycles (charge and discharge) are public in the latest Android beta version, allowing third-party apps to access this information, whereas details like charging policy and health state are only accessible to privileged system apps. It is presently unknown whether these capabilities will be available to customers when Android 14 is released later this year to compatible Pixel handsets.
